Rock Point Summer Sessions Explore Journey
Mountain Echo, October 2007

by Betsy Brown
The theme for the summer of 2007 at the Rock Point Summer Camp was “On the Way,” and it was all about the journey of life and faith and how God and others are with us on this journey. The daily themes were: blessed on the way, led on the way, walking together on the way, challenged on the way, rejoicing on the way, and sent on the way.
Over 100 campers, staff and special guests, including our own Bishop Tom, journeyed through the Rock Point Summer Camp, and if you come to the dining room in Butterfield Hall you can see their “foot prints” on the wall. It is a wonderful testament to the camping program of the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont.
Another testament came from the parent of a junior high camper: “My daughter was at the 7&8 camp early in July and had what she emphatically said was the best camp week of her life—thank you so much!! We've been talking about driving cross-country next summer and know that we can't leave until Rock Point is over. Thanks again for running such a terrific camp—I can't tell you how much she enjoyed her time there this year.”
We offered the first ever Counselor-in-Training (CIT) camp this summer, and we have some fine young people preparing to be the next generation of counselors at Rock Point. We also held two sessions of day camp for the first time. The parent of one day camper said, “She had an absolutely fantastic week at camp—we are so grateful that she had this opportunity! She really glowed each day when we picked her up, and she had so much to say about everything she learned. Thanks to all for making it such a great week for her!”
Look for more day camp sessions and new programs next summer, like two mini-camps for children entering second and third grade. The theme for the summer of 2008 is “Handle With Care,” and the program has a strong emphasis on ecology and stewardship.
Several of the campers, parents and others returned to Rock Point on Labor Day to celebrate “The Last Hurrah to Summer,” which included the ever popular four-square, croquet, swimming, barbecuing, s’mores (of course), and Compline. Fun was had by all. One camper who was unable to make it to the Labor Day event said, “We seriously need another Rock Point reunion because I miss everyone and couldn't show up. So yeah...plan another one because I really wanna see everyone.”
The good news is that we’re planning a family fun event each month, so watch the Website, the diocesan listserve and your email for notices of future events. If you’d like to be added to our growing email list, just send an email to betsycamps@hotmail.com and ask to be added to the list.
