“On Our Way” to Rock Point Summer Camp
(Mountain Echo, February 2007)
by Debi Paterson
Summer’s Coming! You can be “on your way” to Rock Point Summer Camp in just five months! It is not too soon to plan for a great time with new and old friends. We would like you to join us for a very special week.
What makes it so special?  Well, let’s see…fun games, learning new crafts, outdoor worship services, swimming, canoeing, caring camp counselors, hiking, finding God in nature, telling stories, beach barbeques, and S’mores! Most of all, Rock Point Summer Camp is a place to experience God’s love as we live together in a special way that only seems to happen at camp.
Did you notice we said, “Camp” rather than “Conferences”? Rock Point Summer Camp is now a program of Bishop Booth Conference Center, at Rock Point. The conference center has been our campsite for 26 summers. Rock Point is a beautiful 130+ acre property on the shore of beautiful Lake Champlain, owned by our diocese.
In March, Bishop Booth Conference Center will welcome a year round Program Director who will serve as Rock Point Camp Director. With the addition of a year-round Program Director at BBCC, we will better be able to enhance the current programs while offering new programs.
Our summer theme is “On Our Way.” Whether walking, wandering, fleeing, or traveling along the way, biblical characters are constantly on a journey of faith with God. This summer, campers will hear the stories of the journeys taken by God’s people. They will be invited to take their own journeys—to camp, within the camp community, and back home. Activities are adapted to camper age levels and Episcopal Church teachings and traditions. Daily Discoveries are firmly rooted in Scripture and offer a fun, thoughtful way to explore our relationship to God, one another, and creation.
New this summer are Senior High Leadership Weeks (indicated with an asterisk on the schedule). Those entering grade 12 or graduating from High School are encouraged to apply for Senior High Leadership Camp. Youth will have fun while developing their gifts of leadership at the same time. This is an opportunity to be a “counselor in training” (C.I.T). Participate in training workshops as well as assisting experienced staff counselors with a cabin of younger campers for all or part of the week. Limited enrollment by special application (see upcoming brochure for more detailed information).
The Rock Point Summer Camp brochure will be “on the way” soon, with all the stuff you need to know to prepare for a great week at camp this summer. We’ve included lots of information to answer questions, for those who have never been to camp before. The abbreviated schedule for age levels is included here so you can save the dates in your calendar. The full brochure will include additional special program opportunities and registration forms.
Brochures will also be available at churches of the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont and on the diocesan Web site. If you or someone you know would like to receive a brochure by email or by US mail, please contact us in one of these ways: Email, bishopbooth2@dioceseofvermont.org; telephone, (802)658-6223; regular mail, RPSC Registrar, Bishop Booth Conference Center, 20 Rock Point Circle, Burlington, VT 05486.
Camperships (financial assistance) may be available through your church. Please consult your parish priest, youth minister or contact our Rock Point Summer Camp Registrar. Donations to the Rock Point Summer Campership Fund are gratefully accepted.  This fund provides opportunities for campers who might not otherwise be able to attend. Please make checks payable to “Bishop Booth Conference Center,” and write “RSPC Campership Fund” on the memo line.
