Episcopal Church Women reflect "a new light" Mountain Echo, September 2003 by Donna Abramov The first week, the business of ECW was conducted, along with spiritual work, spiritual learning and wonderful noontime offerings, the first by the Rt. Rev. Barbara Harris. A highlight of the spiritual learning sessions was a presentation by Barbi Tinder, chair for social justice—“I Will With God’s Help”—focusing on our baptismal covenant. The UTO Sharing Dinner highlighted representatives from the Young Adult Service Corps and their experiences as missionaries throughout the world, and the presence of Anglican and ecumenical guests further emphasized our connectedness with the rest of the world. ECW members were treated to the premiere viewing of “Women at the Table: A Celebration of Women’s Ministries in the Episcopal Church.” Narrated by Bishop Harris, it is a celebration of the ministries of women, ranging from more traditional roles, to missionary posts, to women who break barriers and enter creative ministries. Sunday’s highlight was the Holy Eucharist with the United Thank Offering Ingathering—every diocese presents their gift to the Presiding Bishop. In the second week, over fifty workshops were offered. I attended the Anti-Racism Training Block, a nine hour, worthwhile and eye-opening experience. I was honored to represent Vermont at the ECW Triennial. It is an experience I wish all Episcopalians could have. To see the structure and inner workings of the church, to interact with other Episcopalians, and to be part of the church family is an experience that will stay with me always. Donna Abramov is a member of Trinity, Rutland. |
