Ministry Fair Workshops
(1) “Exploring the Approaches to Spiritual Direction”
Diane Rooney
Spiritual direction (spiritual guidance) is an ancient ministry, one of companionship and attending to the
call and presence of God. It honors the sacred mystery
of the soul and invites an ever-deepening relationship
with the Divine. Spiritual direction helps each of us to
tell our stories in the context of a life lived with the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. Come and explore how
spiritual direction can assist in creating a deeper relationship with
God in all life. Discover how spiritual direction can help us learn
how to live with compassion, peacefulness, and our call
to be servants of God in the world.
(2) "Identifying One's Spiritual Call"
Jane Wolfe
This workshop will cover the difference between
understanding and exercising spiritual gifts and
listening for and responding to spiritual calls from God.
There will first be an exercise to help you identify your
gifts (which may not be what you expect), and then
this knowledge will be set aside for a closer look at the
whole notion of call and its place in your spiritual life.
You will learn how to recognize your calls. You will
learn the best practices for following these calls
effectively. You will learn the place of your call in your
overall spiritual health and its development.
(3) “Developing
a Regular Prayer Practice”
Scott Neal
Our prayer book tells us that “Prayer is responding to God, by
thought and by deeds, with our without words” (p. 856). As
Christians we are called to ‘pray without ceasing.’ In this
brief overview workshop of personal daily prayer we will
begin to explore the questions, “How do I get started on a
personal prayer life?” “What resources are available to me in
the Book of Common Prayer and beyond?” and “Why even
try?”
(4) “Understanding Prayer through Service”
Lucy Pellegrini, Con Quinby
Jesus has called us to heal, feed, teach, clothe and liberate,
among other things. How do we discern which is the one (or
ones) we are called to do? How does prayer discern, define,
and empower our ministry? How does our ministry inform
our prayer? Explore these questions with others whose ministries and relationships are centered in their prayers,
and whose prayers are reflected in their ministry.
Hopkins Bookshop
will be selling books and resources related to these workshops at
each Ministry Fair.
