Presiding Bishop's Forum on Global Poverty and the UN Millennium Development Goals

The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church and special guest at the 175th Convention of the Diocese of Vermont will lead a forum on “What ONE can do: Global Poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on Friday afternoon, November 2, from 3:30-5:30 pm at the University of Vermont’s Ira Allen Chapel. Though tickets will be required, the event is free, and all are welcome. Download poster here (8 1/2x11 format, pdf file).

The presiding bishop was an active and passionate advocate at the  2006 General Convention for the ultimately successful effort to declare the MDGs to be the top mission priority of The Episcopal Church over the 2007-2009 triennium. She will speak on the importance of the effort to eliminate extreme poverty for the millions in the world who live on less than a dollar a day and on the role of faith communities in addressing the eight goals agreed to by all 191 members of the United Nations in 2000 (www.un.org/millenniumgoals/).

Bishop Jefferts Schori has said, “We cannot speak much in the way of good news to people who are starving or dying of preventable disease. We must begin by doing good news with those who are most vulnerable. In and through both, God is glorified, and all creation can begin to experience the shalom for which we were created.”

Tickets are required to attend the forum. To reserve a ticket, call the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 802-864-0471, email Sarah Gallagher (sarahg@stpaulscathedralvt.org), or fill out the ticket request form below.
