173rd Convention of the Diocese of Vermont
November 4-5, 2005
Lake Morey Resort, Fairlee, Vermont

This year’s convention will meet in a new venue—Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee—that will offer new opportunities for fellowship and learning.

The Convention theme is “global mission,” and the focus will be on mission in Central America, Africa, and the Middle East. Workshops on Friday afternoon will address each of the three areas, and the Rt. Rev. Martín Barahona, Primate of the Anglican Church of the Region of Central America will preach at the Convention Eucharist on Saturday morning. Bishop Ely will address the Convention during worship at 5:15 on Friday, followed by a social time and dinner at 7:15.

Convention Business
Convention delegates are expected to attend a pre-Convention hearing at one of the three Ministry Fairs prior to Convention, where issues coming before the Convention will be presented, and where questions may be raised and discussed.

At Convention, hearings on proposed resolutions and the 2006 budget will take place Friday afternoon from 1:30-2:30 P.M. The business session on Saturday will include election of persons to serve on various boards and committees of the diocese (see list of offices), approval of a budget for 2006, and discussion and voting on resolutions and a proposed revision of the diocesan canons.

General Convention Deputies will propose a resolution asking the Diocese of Vermont to join with the Episcopal Church and many dioceses and congregations—as well as many governments, including the United States—in embracing the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Display your ministries
All ministries are invited and encouraged to create displays for the 2005 Convention, particularly those that show how churches in the diocese are involved in global mission. This is a terrific opportunity to showcase your ministry in this area so that others can see what you're doing and how they might build global mission in their own communities. Reserve your space now by contact Sarah Gallagher at St. Paul's Cathedral, 864-0471 or sarahg@stpaulscathedralvt.org.

Events open to all
Convention events are open to all in the diocese who wish to participate. Reservations must be made in advance for the dinner, which will cost $32 for those not staying overnight at Lake Morey (Package A). The cost of the dinner is included in the full “Package C” for those staying overnight. A Day Conference Package (B) is also available for delegates and others not staying overnight that covers lunch and food for the breaks during the Saturday business session.

To aid the registration process, Convention planners would prefer to have one registration form sent per parish delegation, but individuals wishing to attend specific parts of the Convention may send in separate forms. The registration form may be downloaded as a MS Word file and filled in on a computer or as a PDF file and filled in by hand.
